The Maryland Transit Administration reports that CSX has issued heat orders for Monday from 1 to 7 p.m. This will affect trains on the Brunswick and Camden lines, which will operate 20 miles per hour under their normal maximum speed. Officials said trains won't travel at less than 40 mph, but delays can range from 10 to 15 minutes. CSX operates the Maryland Area Regional Commuter Brunswick and Camden lines for the MTA on CSX-owned tracks.

CSX train kills 1; Brunswick Line delays probable

The Brunswick Line of the Maryland Area Regional Commuter service was temporarily closed due to a CSX train striking and killing a pedestrian near Gaithersburg. The train consisted of two locomotives and 90 empty freight cars, according to CSX. The line reopened about 4 p.m. but trains were operating at reduced speeds through the accident area.

Cameras at work during ICC test drives

A traveler who took a test drive on Maryland’s new Intercounty Connector during the two-week period before tolling started told me she was surprised to receive a mailing from the state after her trip. We hope you enjoyed traveling the ICC, said the letter from the Maryland’ E-ZPass service center. She said the mailing listed the time and date of the trip on the ICC, the license plate number of her car and a notice of “recorded unpaid toll transactions.”

MARC adjusts Wednesday trains

The Maryland Area Regional Commuter rail service is canceling some trains Wednesday afternoon and replacing them with earlier ones in anticipation of a shift in passenger traffic as workers depart for the Thanksgiving holiday. On the Brunswick Line, Train 877, which normally departs Washington at 4:55 p.m., is canceled. An earlier train will leave Washington at 2:40 p.m., stopping at Silver Spring, Rockville, Gaithersburg, Germantown, Point of Rocks, Brunswick and all West Virginia stops.

Drivers keep licenses despite violations

Dozens of Maryland drivers who had racked up enough penalty points to lose their licenses apparently got some extra time behind the wheel thanks to a software glitch at the Motor Vehicle Administration, according to state auditors. The audit, made public last week, found that over a six month period ending in May 2009, MVA officials were not aware that at least 139 drivers had accumulated 12 points -- enough to have a license revoked -- but were still being allowed to drive.

MARC train stalled at New Carrolton

MARC train 538 on the Penn Line has been stopped south of New Carrollton for more than an hour, leaving passengers restless and wondering what's going on. MARC says a mechanical problem will delay the train by a total of 75 to 90 minutes; a rescue locomotive was dispatched to the scene around 6:30.
