The xx and Dizzee Rascal lead Mercury Prize nominees; Big Star bassist Andy Hummel passes away; Live Nation offers $10 tickets

By David Malitz

- Moody young indie-soul group The xx and grime rapper Dizzee Rascal lead the 2010 list of Mercury Prize nominees. Other nominees for the prestigious award for best U.K. or Irish album include Paul Weller, Mumford & Sons, Corinne Bailey Rae and Laura Marling. Rascal and The xx have been installed as 4:1 favorites; if Rascal prevails he would be the first two-time winner. He won in 2003 for his debut album "Boy in Da Corner."

- Andy Hummel, bassist and founding member of power pop icons Big Star passed away on Monday at the age of 59. Hummel's death comes just four months after the passing of the band's singer/guitarist/songwriter Alex Chilton.

- Live Nation is offering $10 lawn tickets for select shows during a promotion that runs all day today. Shows include American Idol Live, Santana with Steve Winwood, Creed, Jonas Brothers, Maroon 5 and Rihanna. It's a handy guide to the tours that are losing lots of money this summer.
