49ers draft Virginia’s Cam Johnson in final round

San Francisco selected Virginia defensive end-linebacker Cam Johnson, a Gonzaga graduate, in the seventh round.

The 6-foot-3, 268 pound Johnson, a former third-team basketball All-Met, is known for his ability to rush the passer. The 49ers took him with the 30th pick in the seventh and final round, the 237th player selected overall.

According to the 49ers Web site, NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock gave Johnson a grade commensurate with a second-round pick.

For Virginia last season, Johnson led the team in sacks with four and was second in tackles for a loss with 11.
