Danny Rosenbaum named Eastern League player of the week

Class AA Harrisburg left-hander Danny Rosenbaum was named the Eastern League player of the week today for the complete game he pitched Wednesday against Altoona. Rosenbaum allowed one unearned run on four hits and no walks while striking out nine.

Rosenbaum, 24, is not typically considered among the Nationals’ top prospects, but since the Nationals drafted him in the 22nd round in 2009, he has been excellent at every level. Rosenbaum began at the Gulf Coast in mid-2009 and last season reached Harrisburg. He has a 2.29 career ERA over 374 innings, striking out 304 batters and walking 102.

He fits a profile somewhat similar to Tom Milone, one of the prospects traded to Oakland in the Gio Gonzalez deal: an unheralded left-hander who makes up for lacking elite stuff with command and competitiveness.

He could receive a September call-up this season. And, if this was the year 2008, he probably would be in the rotation already.
