Henry Rodriguez expected at Nationals spring training later today

The Nationals expect reliever Henry Rodriguez, excused from the first few days of pitchers and catchers workouts because of a personal issue, to report to spring training later today.

Rodriguez, the only pitcher yet to show up, threw 23 2/3 innings in the Venezuelan winter league, which makes the Nationals confident about his arm strength.

“I’m not really worried about him, his arm,” Manager Davey Johnson said. “I’d like him to get here and go through the thing like everybody else.”

Last year, Rodriguez arrived roughly two weeks late because of a visa issue. This year he had no problem with his visa, but he had to tend to a family matter, which the Nationals okayed.
