Nationals reliever Brad Lidge will undergo surgery Tuesday morning to repair a hernia, his agent Rex Gary said. Lidge, who visited a specialist Monday in Philadelphia and decided on the surgery, should be able to begin throwing again in three weeks.

felt a tear in his lower abdomen on Thursday while throwing a bullpen session. Lidge had been serving as a co-closer with Drew Storen out until midseason. The closing duties will now fall solely to flamethrower Henry Rodriguez, who blew a save on Saturday night in Los Angeles.
Lidge, a veteran with 225 career saves, signed a one-year contract with the Nationals for $1 million plus incentives in late January. He expected to set up, but became a closer when Storen underwent surgery in early April to remove bone chips from his right elbow.
The Nationals called up Ryan Perry to replace Lidge in the bullpen.
