If you like soap operas, you’ll love Mexico’s new first couple: President-elect Enrique Peña Nieto and actress Angélica Rivera .
We’ll leave the political implications to the pundits — with his win Sunday, he brought the controversial PRI party back to power after 12 years — and bring you up to speed on the telenovela life of Peña Nieto, 45, and his glamorous wife, 41.
• Women love him: Female voters waited hours at campaign rallies to get close to the movie-star handsome candidate. His nickname? “Bombón” (sweet, chocolate); a popular chant was “Peña Nieto, bombón, te quiero en mi colchón.” (“Peña Nieto, sweetie, I want you in my bed.”)
• His first wife died under mysterious circumstances: In 1993, Peña Nieto married Monica Pretelini. When she died in 2007, the cause of death was ruled an epileptic seizure — although that was questioned by political rivals. They had three children, now impossibly photogenic teenagers.
• He had affairs: While he was married to his first wife, Peña Nieto had two out-of-wedlock children — one died as an infant; the other, born in 2005, has little contact with his father. (His ex-lover recently called Peña Nieto a neglectful father on Facebook.)

• His wife is more famous: Until Sunday’s election, Rivera was a bigger celebrity. She starred in the hit soap opera, “Distilling Love” and is still known as the “La Gaviota” (the seagull), the name of the humble peasant girl she played on the show.
• How they met: Rivera was recruited to help publicize the good works of Peña Nieto when he was governor of the state of Mexico. Soon after, her marriage of 14 years (and three children) was annulled; the two were married in a lavish wedding in 2010.
• They love YouTube: The couple released a cheesy Christmas video; Rivera did a series of short videos titled “Lo que mis ojos ven, lo que mi corazon siente” (“What my eyes see, what my heart feels”) during the campaign.
• Hobbies: Not a big reader, the president-elect enjoys Abba, Celine Dion, “The Departed” and “J. Edgar,” according to the New York Times.
