Camden Yards’ 10 most memorable moments

Oriole Park at Camden Yards, home to the Balitmore Orioles, is celebrating its 20-year anniversary this season. Post sports reporter Dave Sheinin picked 10 of the most memorable moments in the stadium’s history.

Sept. 6, 1995

1. Cal Ripken plays in his 2,131st consecutive game (and hits a homer, to boot), breaking Lou Gehrig’s storied record in front of an audience that includes President Bill Clinton.

April 6, 1992

2. The first regular season game is played at Oriole Park at Camden Yards (a 2-0 Orioles win over Cleveland), ushering in an era of neo-traditional, asymmetrical ballparks in baseball.

Sept. 6, 1996

3. Eddie Murray hits his 500th career homer, becoming just the second switch-hitter in history to join that club and virtually cementing his Hall of Fame credentials.

4. Ripken plays in his final game – a milestone that would have occurred a week earlier at Yankee Stadium, until the 9/11 attacks caused the postponement of a week’s worth of games.

5. Oriole Park at Camden Yards hosts the All-Star Game, highlighted by a Home Run Derby in which Seattle’s Ken Griffey Jr. became the first slugger to hit the B&O Warehouse beyond right field on the fly.
